NHS priorities

Whether it’s to prepare for the next Pharmacy Quality Scheme deadline, or to increase your confidence in helping people with a learning disability, this section provides topic-specific pages that link to current NHS priorities. This section will support you in keeping your knowledge and skills up to date in order to provide high-quality pharmacy services and be service-ready.

Clinical pharmacy

Our clinical portfolio is expanding on a frequent basis, helping you to advance your knowledge and skills and deliver medicines optimisation in practice for all sectors of pharmacy. From two new focal points a year to our small group learning for hospital pharmacists – Optimise – this section focuses on clinical pharmacy, diseases and therapeutics.

Public health

The public health agenda is embedded in pharmacy, yet topics such as emergency contraception or stop smoking support are as prevalent as ever. As well as our public health workshops, use this section to access a wide range of resources to assure and maintain your competence, all underpinned by the Declaration of Competence system.

Commissioners

As a commissioner of a service, or as an employer, you may wish to access evidence that a pharmacy professional has taken the appropriate steps to reflect on their competence to deliver a service. The Declaration of Competence (DoC) system is supported for use across England by NHS England, and endorsed by NHS England and PH England and is intended to support professionals and employers in assuring the delivery of high quality services for patients. By working through a self-assessment tool, the pharmacy professional reflects on current competence to deliver a service and identifies the steps they need to take to develop and maintain their knowledge and skills in relation to a service before signing a self-declaration of competence statement.

You can download more information for commissioners about the Declaration of Competence system in a PDF document.

You can access the DoC for each individual service by clicking on the titles on the right. You can also access a list of the learning materials and assessments linked to each service with an overview of learning objectives for each programme below.
