This online learning improves your knowledge of asthma in line with the BTS/NICE/SIGN Joint Guideline and helps you support people living with asthma.

Completion of this course and the associated assessment is required for the Medicines Optimisation and Patient Safety domain of the 2026/27 Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS).

Learning outcomes

On completion of all aspects of this learning programme you should be able to:

  • describe the pathophysiology, diagnostic tests, signs and symptoms associated with asthma
  • demonstrate how guidelines are used to provide optimum care for individual people with asthma
  • examine whether a person’s asthma treatment is appropriate, recognising when treatment needs to be increased or decreased
  • implement a holistic approach to support people with asthma, considering all factors which influence their asthma control
  • support people to self-manage their asthma while demonstrating a person-centred approach.
