NHS Pharmacy First: Ear, nose and throat clinical assessment skills

The aim of this workshop is to develop the clinical assessment skills of pharmacy professionals working in community pharmacy to assess patients with ear, nose and throat presentations.

You will need to bring along your own otoscope to use during the workshop – this is important to ensure that you have adequate time available to practise examination skills.

PLEASE NOTE: You will not be able to book this workshop if you have already attended the Ear, nose and throat examination: advancing clinical assessment skills workshop

Learning outcomes

On completion of all aspects of this learning programme you should be able to:

  • apply a person-centred approach to ear, nose and throat history taking
  • describe ear, nose and throat examinations
  • describe the significance of ear, nose and throat red flags
  • identify when it is appropriate to refer patients on to an alternative healthcare provider, such as a GP.

  • Please arrive on time. If you arrive after the start time, the facilitator may not be able to admit you to the workshop.  
  • Please ensure that you can attend for the entire workshop – attendance will only be marked if you attend and participate fully.
