About the programme
Prescribing legally and ethically is a programme aimed at prescribers, but also contains a wealth of information that others might find useful, especially if you are considering undertaking or are currently studying for a prescribing course. Ideally you could consider working through the whole programme every two years or so, to remain up to date, but you could also use it as a reference guide, as it contains a wide range of information.
Prescribing legally and ethically covers:
- the policy background
- an examination of ethics and the ethical principles
- an overview of case law relating to prescribing and negligence
- the principles and law around consent and shows where these fit with the ethical principles
- current legislation, helping identify the medicines that can be legally prescribed
- the broad legislative framework regarding medicines and the licensing process.
To practise, you really need to be aware of how the law applies to you, about professional judgment and about liability and indemnity. The programme is about giving you the confidence and ability to prescribe legally and ethically.
