- By the end of 31 March 2023, all registered pharmacy professionals working at the pharmacy on the day of declaration must have satisfactorily completed the CPPE Risk management guide and passed the e-assessment.
Please note, for the 2023/24 PQS, registered pharmacy professionals will be required to have satisfactorily completed the CPPE risk management guide and passed the e-assessment within the four years prior to 31 March 2024 (between 1 April 2020 and 31 March 2024). Originally, this four year requirement was due to be introduced into the 2022/23 PQS but due to the start date of the scheme being delayed, it has been agreed to delay this requirement until the 2023/24 Scheme.
- By the end of 31 March 2023, all registered pharmacy professionals working at the pharmacy on the day of declaration must have satisfactorily completed, within the last two years (between 1 April 2021 and the end of 31 March 2023), the CPPE Sepsis e-learning and passed the e-assessment, .
There are two CPPE learning programmes and associated assessments linked to this criterion:
Risk management guide – all registered pharmacy professionals
Patient safety is integral to what pharmacy professionals do, but due to the nature of your work, in your practice there will be inherent risks. The guide aims to help you consider what these risks are and how to minimise them. The guide will support you to manage incidents when they do occur.
To complete the CPPE learning as part of this element of the criterion, you need to take the following steps:
Step 1 - guide
We sent a paper copy of the CPPE Risk management guide to everyone on the GPhC register in February 2018. If you plan to use your paper copy, please download, and read the programme update from January 2021. If you do not have a paper copy, you can access and download a copy of the CPPE Risk management guide below.
If you are using the interactive PDF version of this programme, please ensure you download and save a copy of it to your computer before attempting to make and save any changes. If you try and make changes in your browser, there is a strong likelihood of losing your work.
Step 2 - e-assessment
Passing this e-assessment shows that you have met the learning outcomes for the CPPE Risk management guide. As with all assessments, we recommend that you complete the learning programme before attempting the assessment. (You are required to complete the guide and e-assessment to meet the requirements for PQS.) When you have passed the e-assessment, you will be able to download a certificate of achievement from your learning record, or via the tracker on the PQS home page (click on the ‘Home’ button at the top of this page).
Sepsis e-learning programme – all registered pharmacy professionals
Sepsis is a potentially life-threatening condition that can affect an estimated 245,000 people-per-year in the UK (UK Sepsis Trust). Early diagnosis is critical for patients to have the best outcomes from sepsis. As a pharmacy professional, you should be equipped with the knowledge and tools to identify when a patient is at risk of sepsis and respond in a safe and appropriate way. The NHS England Second sepsis action plan highlights the need to ensure there is a specific focus on sepsis education for healthcare staff, such as community pharmacists and their teams.
To complete the CPPE learning as part of this element of the criterion, you need to take the following steps:
Step 1 - e-learning
This e-learning consists of six short case studies on the topic of sepsis. Each case is in a different setting, but relevant to practice. Registered pharmacy professionals must complete all six case studies.
Case study 1 - Community practice
Case study 2 - Hospital practice
Case study 3 - General practice
Case study 4 - Sepsis in children
Case study 5 - Sepsis in pregnancy
Case study 6 - Sepsis in the care home environment
Step 2 - e-assessment
Passing this e-assessment shows that you have met the learning outcomes for the CPPE Sepsis e-learning. As with all assessments, we recommend that you complete the learning programme before attempting the assessment. (You are required to complete the e-learning and e-assessment to meet the requirements for PQS.) When you have passed the e-assessment, you will be able to download a certificate of achievement from your learning record, or via the tracker on the PQS home page (click on the ‘Home’ button at the top of this page).
