NHS priorities

Whether it’s to prepare for the next Pharmacy Quality Scheme deadline, or to increase your confidence in helping people with a learning disability, this section provides topic-specific pages that link to current NHS priorities. This section will support you in keeping your knowledge and skills up to date in order to provide high-quality pharmacy services and be service-ready.

Clinical pharmacy

Our clinical portfolio is expanding on a frequent basis, helping you to advance your knowledge and skills and deliver medicines optimisation in practice for all sectors of pharmacy. From two new focal points a year to our small group learning for hospital pharmacists – Optimise – this section focuses on clinical pharmacy, diseases and therapeutics.

Public health

The public health agenda is embedded in pharmacy, yet topics such as emergency contraception or stop smoking support are as prevalent as ever. As well as our public health workshops, use this section to access a wide range of resources to assure and maintain your competence, all underpinned by the Declaration of Competence system.

Pharmacy Quality Scheme

Be aware: Information shown on this page describes requirements for year four (2022/23) of the Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS). Currently we have no confirmation of the requirements for year five (2023/24) of the PQS.

As soon as we have confirmation, this message will change and these pages will be updated accordingly. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Respiratory domain

CPPE learning and assessment is linked to one quality criterion for this domain:

  • Inhaler technique checks

PSNC has produced a training resource to support one quality criterion for this domain:

  • Inhaler waste management

Completing the learning, assessment and training as detailed here, does not mean that your pharmacy is entitled to a PQS payment for the Respiratory domain. Contractors need to ensure that they meet all elements of this domain, as well as the gateway criteria, to be eligible to claim for the Respiratory domain when they make their PQS declaration.

Click on the items in the dropdown menu below to learn more about the learning and assessment that you need to complete, to work towards the criteria listed above.
