NHS priorities

Whether it’s to prepare for the next Pharmacy Quality Scheme deadline, or to increase your confidence in helping people with a learning disability, this section provides topic-specific pages that link to current NHS priorities. This section will support you in keeping your knowledge and skills up to date in order to provide high-quality pharmacy services and be service-ready.

Clinical pharmacy

Our clinical portfolio is expanding on a frequent basis, helping you to advance your knowledge and skills and deliver medicines optimisation in practice for all sectors of pharmacy. From two new focal points a year to our small group learning for hospital pharmacists – Optimise – this section focuses on clinical pharmacy, diseases and therapeutics.

Public health

The public health agenda is embedded in pharmacy, yet topics such as emergency contraception or stop smoking support are as prevalent as ever. As well as our public health workshops, use this section to access a wide range of resources to assure and maintain your competence, all underpinned by the Declaration of Competence system.

Healthy living support domain

The learning and assessment for this domain is linked to one quality criterion:

  • Weight management

The elements of the Weight management criterion that relate to learning and assessment are:

  • By the end of 31 March 2023, all non-registered patient-facing pharmacy staff who provide health advice working in the pharmacy on the day of declaration must have satisfactorily completed, within the last four years (between 1 April 2019 and end of 31 March 2023), the All Our Health bitesize training and assessments on adult obesity and childhood obesity, to gain a broader understanding of the causes and effects of obesity.
  • By the end of 31 March 2023, all registered pharmacy professionals working at the pharmacy on the day of declaration must have satisfactorily completed, within the last four years (between 1 April 2019 and end of 31 March 2023), sections 1 and 3 of the CPPE Weight management for adults: understanding the management of obesity e-learning and e-assessment.

Completing the learning and assessment detailed here does not mean that your pharmacy is entitled to a PQS payment for the Healthy living support domain. Contractors need to ensure that they meet all elements of this domain, as well as the gateway criteria, to be eligible to claim for the maximum points for the Healthy living support domain when they make their PQS declaration.

Click on the items in the dropdown menu below to learn more about the learning and assessment that you need to complete, to work towards the criterion listed above.
