Clinical pharmacy

Our clinical portfolio is expanding on a frequent basis, helping you to advance your knowledge and skills and deliver medicines optimisation in practice for all sectors of pharmacy. From two new focal points a year to our small group learning for hospital pharmacists – Optimise – this section focuses on clinical pharmacy, diseases and therapeutics.

Public health

The public health agenda is embedded in pharmacy, yet topics such as emergency contraception or stop smoking support are as prevalent as ever. As well as our public health workshops, use this section to access a wide range of resources to assure and maintain your competence, all underpinned by the Declaration of Competence system.

NHS Evidence: this website contains all relevant NICE guidance, information about current clinical trials and information for the public about smoking cessation. 

Department of health resouces

NHS Stop Smoking Services: service delivery and monitoring guidance 2011/12: this best practice guidance for the commissioning and delivery of evidence-based stop smoking services sets out fundamental quality principles and includes evidence-based recommendations for interventions, the use of carbon monoxide monitoring and the provision of pharmacotherapy. Healthy lives, healthy people: a tobacco control plan for England: this sets out the government plans to support efforts to reduce tobacco use within the context of the new public health system. (Use the title of the document or Gateway reference: 15513 as your search term.)

Smokefree Resource Centre: this provides useful information for anyone delivering NHS stop smoking services, including policy updates. Leaflets, posters and campaign information are also available to order.

Action on Smoking and Health (ASH): this is a campaigning public health charity and its website contains many facts and figures about smoking.

No Smoking Day: this is an annual campaign which runs in March each year to focus attention on stopping smoking.

Smokefree: this website, aimed at the public, has contact details for stop smoking helplines , including specialist helplines for pregnant women and people of south Asian origin.

NHS Choices: this website contains a range of resources providing advice for people who want to quit smoking.
