Clinical pharmacy

Our clinical portfolio is expanding on a frequent basis, helping you to advance your knowledge and skills and deliver medicines optimisation in practice for all sectors of pharmacy. From two new focal points a year to our small group learning for hospital pharmacists – Optimise – this section focuses on clinical pharmacy, diseases and therapeutics.

Public health

The public health agenda is embedded in pharmacy, yet topics such as emergency contraception or stop smoking support are as prevalent as ever. As well as our public health workshops, use this section to access a wide range of resources to assure and maintain your competence, all underpinned by the Declaration of Competence system.

In this e-learning we will introduce a toolkit which you can use to make changes in your practice to improve patient safety. This programme will help you to identify which tools may be useful for you and your team. It also provides real-world examples of people using them in practice and working through the learning will allow you to make the most of these resources.

The programme contains practical case studies, reflective exercises and a suggested action plan to ensure that your practice is as safe as possible and any negative incidents can be properly reported and actioned.

Learning outcomes

On completion of all aspects of this learning programme you should be able to:

  • describe what is meant by a safety culture
  • discuss the importance of reporting and analysing patient safety incidents
  • identify opportunities where you can involve patients in patient safety improvements
  • explain how to use the patient safety tools outlined in this programme
  • select the most appropriate tool to use when you are presented with an opportunity to improve patient safety in practice
  • identify the steps that you can take to improve the safety culture in your workplace.
