This programme is designed to support pharmacy professionals in building confidence and competence in the management and prevention of Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) within hospital settings.

Please note: Potential DKA-related complications such as hypoglycaemia, hypophosphataemia and other metabolic disturbances are not covered in this session.

Learning outcomes

On completion of all aspects of this learning programme you should be able to:

  • apply national and local guidelines to support treatment of DKA in line with evidence-based practice
  • collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe transfer of care following DKA
  • support individuals at risk of DKA by providing compassionate, personalised advice that empowers safe self-management and helps prevent recurrence.
