Clinical pharmacy

Our clinical portfolio is expanding on a frequent basis, helping you to advance your knowledge and skills and deliver medicines optimisation in practice for all sectors of pharmacy. From two new focal points a year to our small group learning for hospital pharmacists – Optimise – this section focuses on clinical pharmacy, diseases and therapeutics.

Public health

The public health agenda is embedded in pharmacy, yet topics such as emergency contraception or stop smoking support are as prevalent as ever. As well as our public health workshops, use this section to access a wide range of resources to assure and maintain your competence, all underpinned by the Declaration of Competence system.

This learning programme aims to enable you to apply recent national guidance to help people to optimise treatment of their COPD. You will consider how you can use a holistic approach to empower people to self-manage their condition.

Learning objectives

On completion of all aspects of this learning programme you should be able to:

  • apply recent guidance to assess and discuss the appropriateness of COPD therapy for individuals
  • identify people with COPD with ‘red flag’ signs and symptoms who may require referral to another healthcare professional
  • use a holistic approach to empower and support people to self-manage their COPD
  • create a list of local resources to enable you to support and signpost people with COPD
  • collaborate with other healthcare professionals and people with COPD to help to optimise the treatment of their condition
  • discuss options for the management of breathlessness and anxiety for people with more advanced disease.
