An online training course to help pharmacy professionals deliver culturally competent, person‑centred consultations for people living with anxiety, including communication skills and shared decision making.

Learning outcomes

On completion of all aspects of this learning programme you should be able to:

  • identify your strengths and development needs in relation to supporting people living with a mental health condition such as an anxiety disorder
  • summarise how cultural perspectives and the diverse communities to which people belong can influence their level of engagement with healthcare professionals about their anxiety
  • compare and contrast perspectives on how to initiate a discussion, gather information and engage a person with an anxiety disorder in the shared decision-making process
  • list red flag symptoms of anxiety and identify appropriate courses of action
  • ask effective questions and use active listening techniques during a culturally competent person-centred consultation with a person with an anxiety disorder
  • assess the different stages of a pharmacy consultation with people who have an anxiety disorder against national practice standards to identify best practice
  • apply shared decision-making skills in a culturally competent person-centred consultation
  • self-appraise your confidence and competence in supporting people with their mental health on completion of the programme and identify further learning needs for your continued development.
