Clinical pharmacy

Our clinical portfolio is expanding on a frequent basis, helping you to advance your knowledge and skills and deliver medicines optimisation in practice for all sectors of pharmacy. From two new focal points a year to our small group learning for hospital pharmacists – Optimise – this section focuses on clinical pharmacy, diseases and therapeutics.

Public health

The public health agenda is embedded in pharmacy, yet topics such as emergency contraception or stop smoking support are as prevalent as ever. As well as our public health workshops, use this section to access a wide range of resources to assure and maintain your competence, all underpinned by the Declaration of Competence system.

Leadership for pharmacy professionals (all day event)

The NHS needs leaders at all levels if it is to meet future challenges. This event will help you to become a better leader in your day-to-day role, whatever your sector of practice or level of experience. During the event you will work through some of the dimensions of the NHS Leadership Academy's Healthcare leadership model to identify your leadership strengths and weaknesses and you will explore the challenges and rewards of leadership. This workshop is relevant to all pharmacy professionals, including those who do not work directly with patients in a clinical setting.

Learning objectives

On completion of all aspects of this learning programme you should be able to:

  • describe the differences between leadership and management
  • identify different leadership styles and discuss the strengths and limitations of each style
  • describe the dimensions of the Healthcare leadership model and identify leadership behaviours relevant to each dimension
  • assess your leadership strengths in your day-to-day practice and identify areas for development
  • develop your self-awareness by gathering feedback from colleagues
  • create an action plan to improve resilience in the workplace
  • identify the resources and support available that can help you develop effective leadership behaviours.
