Public health

By the time you’ve worked through this programme you should feel confident that you can provide accurate information about avian flu and the risk associated with pandemic flu. This module will also alert you to the best ways to keep in touch with developments as the disease progresses so that you can continue to provide accurate and timely advice.

Learning objectives

On completion of all aspects of this module you should be able to:

  • explain the significance of an outbreak of avian flu
  • provide accurate and up-to-date information about pandemic flu
  • provide accurate advice to patients about avian flu to ensure that patients and other healthcare professionals are aware of the risks from avian flu and the latest advice about it, what action they should take to prevent the spread of the disease, what therapies are available to mediate the course of the disease
  • develop strategies for dealing with an outbreak of avian flu for yourself, your family, your workplace and your society.
