This programme will help you develop your role in the early identification of dementia and to recognise signs and symptoms of its different types, while helping you to deliver improved outcomes and signposting.

Learning objectives

On completion of all aspects of this programme you should be able to:

  • recognise the signs and symptoms of the different types of dementia and describe their progression
  • describe the investigations and clinical features used to diagnose dementia
  • demonstrate an understanding of the medicines used to treat dementia and their place in therapy
  • describe the lifestyle changes that can improve the overall health of people with dementia
  • describe the behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) and the management of these symptoms
  • describe the risks associated with antipsychotic medicines in patients with dementia
  • optimise medicines in patients with dementia
  • identify patients who use your practice, and give recommendations on how you can support them and their carers.
