Learning objectives

On completion of all aspects of this learning programme you should be able to:

  • describe how to differentiate COPD from other diseases of the respiratory tract
  • describe the diagnostic process and how patients with COPD are classified according to severity of disease
  • evaluate the clinical management of patients with COPD in the context of NICE guidance and quality standards
  • assess symptoms that could be suggestive of undiagnosed COPD
  • describe how COPD management varies according to severity of disease
  • provide information to patients to support management of their condition
  • identify five key interventions that can improve outcomes for patients with COPD and describe how pharmacy teams can contribute.
