From two new focal points a year to our small group learning for hospital pharmacists – Optimise – this section focuses on clinical pharmacy, diseases and therapeutics.

Public health

The public health agenda is embedded in pharmacy, yet topics such as emergency contraception or stop smoking support are as prevalent as ever. As well as our public health workshops, use this section to access a wide range of resources to assure and maintain your competence, all underpinned by the Declaration of Competence system.

This e-learning programme will support you in working towards the new practice standards for pharmacy consultations. The programme can be used as standalone learning, or as background reading before attending one of our consultation skills workshops.

The e-learning is a key element of the Consultation skills for pharmacy practice programme which you can access via the Consultation skills for pharmacy website.

Learning objectives

On completion of all aspects of this learning programme you should be able to:

  • explain what a patient-centred consultation involves and highlight the benefits of this approach
  • outline some of the popular models of consultation
  • understand the benefits of a structured approach to consultations
  • outline the stages of an effective consultation
  • describe the key verbal and non-verbal skills required to deliver effective patient-centred consultations.
