Clinical pharmacy

Our clinical portfolio is expanding on a frequent basis, helping you to advance your knowledge and skills and deliver medicines optimisation in practice for all sectors of pharmacy. From two new focal points a year to our small group learning for hospital pharmacists – Optimise – this section focuses on clinical pharmacy, diseases and therapeutics.

Public health

The public health agenda is embedded in pharmacy, yet topics such as emergency contraception or stop smoking support are as prevalent as ever. As well as our public health workshops, use this section to access a wide range of resources to assure and maintain your competence, all underpinned by the Declaration of Competence system.

The aim of this learning programme is for you to consider how we as pharmacy professionals in all sectors can support people who have asthma. We will apply your knowledge of asthma management and guidelines and explore how you can support people to manage their asthma, reduce complications and improve their quality of life.

Learning objectives

On completion of all aspects of this learning programme you should be able to:

  • apply medicines optimisation principles in the context of asthma treatment
  • demonstrate how guidelines are used to provide optimum care for individual patients
  • examine whether a person’s asthma treatment is appropriate, recognising when treatment needs to be increased or decreased
  • implement a holistic approach to support people with asthma, considering all factors which influence their asthma control
  • enable people to self-manage their asthma with appropriate inhaler use and a personalised asthma action plan.
