This programme will help you to optimise medicines use in people with asthma, and you will consider how to apply the evidence base for treatment of asthma to improve outcomes for your patients.

Learning objectives

On completion of all aspects of this programme you should be able to:

  • describe the five steps in the BTS/SIGN asthma management guideline
  • identify the signs and symptoms of worsening asthma using the Royal College of Physicians key asthma questions
  • discuss the long-term side-effects of medicines used to treat asthma
  • list the key clinical trials leading to changes in the management of asthma
  • deliver an outcomes-based service through improved medicines use reviews (MURs) and new medicine service (NMS) interventions for people with asthma.
