NHS priorities

Whether it’s to prepare for the next Quality Payments Scheme deadline, or to increase your confidence in helping people with a learning disability, this section provides topic-specific pages that link to current NHS priorities. This section will support you in keeping your knowledge and skills up to date in order to provide high-quality pharmacy services and be service-ready.

Clinical pharmacy

Our clinical portfolio is expanding on a frequent basis, helping you to advance your knowledge and skills and deliver medicines optimisation in practice for all sectors of pharmacy. From two new focal points a year to our small group learning for hospital pharmacists – Optimise – this section focuses on clinical pharmacy, diseases and therapeutics.

Public health

The public health agenda is embedded in pharmacy, yet topics such as emergency contraception or stop smoking support are as prevalent as ever. As well as our public health workshops, use this section to access a wide range of resources to assure and maintain your competence, all underpinned by the Declaration of Competence system.

Fundamentals of respiratory therapeutics e-course launch

We are pleased this week to announce the launch of our new Fundamentals of respiratory therapeutics e-course.

Respiratory diseases (those affecting the airways and lungs) are diagnosed in one in five people and are the third leading cause of death in the UK, after cardiovascular disease and cancer. They are also a major driver of health inequalities and much of this disease is largely preventable.1

We have designed this e-course to give you knowledge and understanding of the structure and function of the respiratory tract and the clinical aspects of common respiratory diseases. The course will help you in everyday practice with the promotion of health and wellbeing, management of chronic conditions and optimising medicines to help prevent ill health and make a difference to the lives of people living with respiratory conditions.

This is a CPPE level 1 course, open to all GPhC registrants and will take you approximately 24 hours to complete. To facilitate your learning, this time is split between eight units, each taking around three hours to complete. These units cover an introduction to the respiratory system, inhaler technique and nebuliser use, common respiratory conditions, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis (CF), tuberculosis (TB) and interstitial lung disease (ILD)

Our e-courses allow a deeper learning experience while remaining flexible by allowing you to participate at times that suit you. If you feel you would benefit from refreshing your respiratory knowledge or want to find out more, please visit www.cppe.ac.uk/gateway/respiratory
