NHS priorities

Whether it’s to prepare for the next Quality Payments Scheme deadline, or to increase your confidence in helping people with a learning disability, this section provides topic-specific pages that link to current NHS priorities. This section will support you in keeping your knowledge and skills up to date in order to provide high-quality pharmacy services and be service-ready.

Clinical pharmacy

Our clinical portfolio is expanding on a frequent basis, helping you to advance your knowledge and skills and deliver medicines optimisation in practice for all sectors of pharmacy. From two new focal points a year to our small group learning for hospital pharmacists – Optimise – this section focuses on clinical pharmacy, diseases and therapeutics.

Public health

The public health agenda is embedded in pharmacy, yet topics such as emergency contraception or stop smoking support are as prevalent as ever. As well as our public health workshops, use this section to access a wide range of resources to assure and maintain your competence, all underpinned by the Declaration of Competence system.

Pharmacy Quality Scheme page is now live

Our Pharmacy Quality Scheme webpage is now live.

The new Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (2019/20 - 2023/24) builds on the reforms started with the introduction of the Quality Payments Scheme (QPS) to move pharmacists and their teams towards a more clinically focused service. The QPS which was introduced in 2016 continues in 2019/20 under the new name of the Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS).

On our webpage, you will find lots of learning and assessment to support you in achieving the risk management and safety domain of the PQS.

The CPPE learning and assessments for this domain are linked to three quality criteria:

  • Risk management
  • Sepsis
  • Look-alike, sound-alike errors

Completing the three CPPE training programmes and assessments does not mean that you will be eligible for a PQS payment for this domain, as there are five quality criteria that you need to meet, and two of these are not covered by our resources. You will also need to ensure that you meet the gateway criteria.
