NHS priorities

Whether it’s to prepare for the next Quality Payments Scheme deadline, or to increase your confidence in helping people with a learning disability, this section provides topic-specific pages that link to current NHS priorities. This section will support you in keeping your knowledge and skills up to date in order to provide high-quality pharmacy services and be service-ready.

Clinical pharmacy

Our clinical portfolio is expanding on a frequent basis, helping you to advance your knowledge and skills and deliver medicines optimisation in practice for all sectors of pharmacy. From two new focal points a year to our small group learning for hospital pharmacists – Optimise – this section focuses on clinical pharmacy, diseases and therapeutics.

Public health

The public health agenda is embedded in pharmacy, yet topics such as emergency contraception or stop smoking support are as prevalent as ever. As well as our public health workshops, use this section to access a wide range of resources to assure and maintain your competence, all underpinned by the Declaration of Competence system.

Asthma focal point workshops launch in April

We are delighted to announce that April is the launch of our new Asthma focal point workshops.

Asthma is a common lung condition that affects people of all ages and causes occasional breathing difficulties. In the UK, 5.4 million people are currently receiving treatment for asthma. The respiratory symptoms of asthma include wheeziness, breathlessness and coughing, which can be controlled with treatments.

The face-to-face workshops aim to help pharmacy professionals consider the support they can offer to people who have asthma, including monitoring, identification of triggers and holistic care. On completion of the programme, learners will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to enable people to self-manage their asthma with a personalised asthma action plan.

The programme will also provide the opportunity for learners to apply medicines optimisation principles in the context of asthma treatment and practise using person-centred communication skills through role play.

Focal point programmes have been developed to provide pharmacy professionals working in primary care and in the community with short, clinically focused learning sessions.

When you book onto this workshop you will be able to access the resources that you need to complete your learning. If there is a pre-workshop book associated with your workshop, then this will be sent to you in the post and you will also be able to download it in PDF form.

The workshops will take place in the evening and last for approximately one and three quarter hours. Click here for more information and to book a place on an Asthma focal point workshop near you.
