We are excited to announce the launch of two new and innovative e-learning programmes, which use interactive avatar consultations to test and improve your consultation skills.
COPD – Consulting with the avatar patient and Emergency contraception – Consulting with the avatar patient give you the opportunity to take your person-centred consultation skills on a test drive in a safe environment, with direct feedback to help you develop your skills.
This is a completely new approach to learning for CPPE and promotes live learning. The avatar will speak directly to you to provide feedback on what elements of the consultation went well and what could be improved.
As this is a new concept we have developed an instructional video to support learners in navigating through either of the new e-learning programmes.
In COPD – Consulting with the avatar patient learners will meet James Keating, who has had a recent hospital admission due to an exacerbation of his COPD. Your job is to establish how James uses his medicines and explore and ideas, concerns and expectations he may have.
The second new programme – Emergency contraception – Consulting with the avatar patient – introduces Stephanie and her story. You will meet her request for emergency contraception appropriately and address any safeguarding issues you may be concerned about.
Both of these cases have been designed to support you in establishing a flexible structure to your consultation whilst addressing the patient’s agenda and priorities. They are presented in sections which align to the Calgary-Cambridge guide to consultation and provides suggestions on areas to cover in each section.
These programmes have been developed in collaboration with Keele University and NHS Education for Scotland. There are an additional two avatar programmes under development - keep an eye on the CPPE website for more information coming soon.
