Clinical pharmacy

Our clinical portfolio is expanding on a frequent basis, helping you to advance your knowledge and skills and deliver medicines optimisation in practice for all sectors of pharmacy. From two new focal points a year to our small group learning for hospital pharmacists – Optimise – this section focuses on clinical pharmacy, diseases and therapeutics.

Public health

The public health agenda is embedded in pharmacy, yet topics such as emergency contraception or stop smoking support are as prevalent as ever. As well as our public health workshops, use this section to access a wide range of resources to assure and maintain your competence, all underpinned by the Declaration of Competence system.

Applications for our Foundation pharmacist training pathway are now open

Our Foundation pharmacist training pathway is a programme specifically aimed at supporting newly qualified pharmacists to develop their knowledge and skills in community pharmacy practice.

The Foundation pharmacist training pathway will support you to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, behaviours and experience to deliver excellent patient care. Mapped to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) Foundation practice framework, the programme aims to support you to be capable and competent in your role and ensure quality of care during the first stage of your foundation training – foundation stage 1.

The 12-month fully funded programme offers a comprehensive mix of online tutor-supported study, learning activities, workshops, assessment and work-based support through a designated workplace-based CPPE education supervisor. 

The Foundation pharmacist training pathway will incorporate an element of workplace support and assessment, allowing learning to be applied, developed and demonstrated in a practice environment.

The application process will open on Monday 30 July 2018, the deadline will be Sunday 14 October 2018 and there will be a limit of 100 places. Successful applicants will be informde by 19 October. The programme will commence on Monday 5 November 2018.

Who can apply?

You are eligible to apply if you:

  • are a newly qualified pharmacist (2016 onwards)
  • are a community pharmacist returning to practice after a career break
  • are a pharmacist moving to community practice from another practice environment
  • are a locum pharmacist

and you work for at least three days a week in an independent or small multiple community pharmacy.
