This section will support you in keeping your knowledge and skills up to date in order to provide high-quality pharmacy services and be service-ready.

Clinical pharmacy

Our clinical portfolio is expanding on a frequent basis, helping you to advance your knowledge and skills and deliver medicines optimisation in practice for all sectors of pharmacy. From two new focal points a year to our small group learning for hospital pharmacists – Optimise – this section focuses on clinical pharmacy, diseases and therapeutics.

Public health

The public health agenda is embedded in pharmacy, yet topics such as emergency contraception or stop smoking support are as prevalent as ever. As well as our public health workshops, use this section to access a wide range of resources to assure and maintain your competence, all underpinned by the Declaration of Competence system.

New Biochemistry Optimise and gateway page launch

We are pleased to announce the latest additions to both our Optimise and gateway page portfolios - Biochemistry.

We have developed a new Optimise programme focusing on the biochemical changes associated with acute kidney injury (AKI).

By accessing this programme, you will have the opportunity to update your knowledge of guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in relation to AKI, and apply this to patient scenarios.

This programme will provide you with the opportunity to work with colleagues and practise consulting with patients about biochemistry results.

As a pharmacy professional, you may find it difficult to undertake these consultations with confidence.

This programme will help you in gaining the necessary confidence and competence to improve patient care in this area.

Coupled with the launch of the Optimise programme is the development of the Biochemistry gateway page.

On this page you will find six short e-learning case studies to work through, which relate to six different topics in biochemistry.

There is also further learning from the Welsh Centre for Pharmacy Professional Education, and a two-part e-assessment.

This is the first of our new gateway pages to be designed specifically to support learning associated with short e-learning case studies, and it has been tailor made to maximise your ability to access this learning.

We hope you enjoy working through these new programmes, and can apply them successfully to practice, whatever your job role may be.
