We hold up to six events in your local area each year. Each term (April-July, September-December and January-March) we deliver three focal point events and three Route to revalidation workshops in each area.

In November 2008 we introduced
focal point, a new type of learning event that runs alongside our established
workshop format. All events are listed in the events portfolio. We also provide full details (ie, overviews and learning objectives) of the latest events in our national newsletter, news@CPPE.

We normally hold our workshops during the evening at venues across the country. They are facilitated by one of our local CPPE tutors and are available to registered pharmacists. Many are now open to pharmacy technicians as well.
For most of our workshops we will send you a pre-workshop task, which we ask you to complete before the event to familiarise yourself with the topic. Your local tutor leads the event, which may sometimes feature a presentation by an expert guest speaker. The workshop will involve some group activity and exercises.

Our latest programme format, focal point, is a new approach to learning aimed at pharmacy professionals working in community and primary care settings. The units are more clinically challenging and are ideal for those professionals wanting to practise at a higher level.
The focal point format differs from our regular CPPE workshops by involving smaller groups and using shorter discussion-based events. It is designed to challenge both your existing practice and your approach to learning.
The first focal point topic will be Asthma – CPPE tutor-led events will be available from November 2008. This unit considers the evidence base for the management of the respiratory disease. After working though pre-reading and learning with colleagues at the discussion-based events, you will be ready to consider advanced-level pharmacy practice for patients with asthma.
From January 2009, you will have the opportunity to learn in small groups called ‘learning communities’ with other pharmacy colleagues. More information about learning communities will be available at the end of 2008.
