The Return to practice course is aimed at pharmacists who have been out of practice for a minimum of three years or those changing sector. If you decide to book on the course, you will be asked to sign a declaration stating that you intend to return to community pharmacy providing NHS services within the next six months. The course is strictly for pharmacists practising in England.
To help you decide whether Return to practice will meet your learning needs, we have provided a course breakdown below. We have also included a sample agenda to give you an idea about how the days run. The content of the course may alter slightly from one event to another.
The first two days provide an overview of the governments evolving pharmacy strategy for pharmacy, the community pharmacy contract and the developing role of the pharmacist. You will have the opportunity to take part in a 'typical pharmacy day' which explores the legal and ethical issues assoicated with pharmacy practice. Throughout the course, you will be able to practise and develop your communication skills.
Day three of the course focuses on clinical knowledge and skills. It covers medication review and the management of long-term conditions. The fourth and final day provides more in-depth information about the community pharmacy contracts enhanced services.
The course consists of a variety of presentations, group work, exercises and case studies. In total, 30 pharmacists attend the course. They will all be preparing to return to practice like you.
