focal point programmes

CPPE focal point is aimed at pharmacy professionals working in community and primary care settings. They are more clinical and focus on the challenges of practising within NHS pharmacy, and they encourage discussion with a view to improving practice.

Our focal point programmes offer the flexibility of two types of event – you can meet with colleagues at a CPPE tutor-led event or on a less formal basis within your own learning community.

Learning style

Our focal point programmes are clinically challenging and focus on improving practice. Discussions with pharmacy colleagues at these events is a fundamental part of the learning experiance. CPPE focal point offers:

  • shorter sessions (1 hour 30 minutes)
  • topics with a specific focus, providing learning with greater depth
  • a two-booklet resource providing key information and activities
  • increased levels of interaction and structured discussion to challenge your practice and your approach to learning
  • flexibility – you can either attend a tutor-led event (maximum of 28 attendees) or join a learning community.

The units are ideal for pharmacy colleagues developing a service or wanting to improve practice in a particular area, and for those professionals wanting to practise at a higher level.

Each focal point unit is supported by two booklets:

Booklet 1 (sent to you before the event) assesses learning needs, provides information and looks at areas of development. It is essential that you complete Booklet 1 before attending the event.

Booklet 2 (distributed by the tutor or learning community leader at the event) includes case studies, clinical vignettes and practice points, and forms the basis of group discussion during the event.

How do I join a focal point event?

Our focal point programmes are flexible. You can:

  • attend a CPPE tutor-led event
  • join or set up a local learning community.

All our focal point programmes are paper-based learning materials that can be downloaded as a PDF document from the focal point portfolio. NHS repeat dispensing can also be ordered as a self-study programme.

Attend a CPPE tutor-led event

We will hold focal point events once a term in your local area. Go to our Events portfolio page to see what is available to you.

Learning communities

You join an existing local learning community or set up a new one with your colleagues. You and your colleagues decide what topic you want to choose and the time and place of your meeting. You can manage this on our website. For more information go to our Learning communities page.

E-assessments

Most of our focal point programmes have associated e-assessments for you to complete once you have worked through the programme. Successful completion of our e-assessments can be used as evidence of knowledge and skills within that area of practice.

You can access e-assessments from your My CPPE record or from the E-assessment portfolio.
