CPPE local solutions is a new set of learning resources developed to give commissioners and providers of community pharmacy enhanced services access to a range of resources to deliver local learning events, either by themselves or by commissioning CPPE pharmacy tutors to run them.
Resources would typically include a pre-workshop booklet, a workshop booklet featuring case studies, a facilitator’s guide and powerpoint presentation to be used by a local expert speaker.
Why CPPE local solutions?
CPPE has full range of open learning programmes and e-assessments to support enhanced services. However, we also realise that local face-to-face events are often needed to start new services or recruit new service providers, especially where accreditation is required.
Using CPPE local solutions resources will enable providers and commissioners to achieve robust training with a common approach as well as eliminate any duplication of time and effort in developing their local events. CPPE local solutions supports the national roll-out of the Harmonisation of Accreditation Group (HAG) as it formalises the local learning event format.
In addition, CPPE local solutions supports the transition of PCT medicines management teams from providers to commissioners, as they can now rely on these resources to be the local solution to their training requirements.
Who can use CPPE local solutions?
Any organisation wishing to provide training for enhanced services. These could be commissioners such as primary care trusts or providers such as multiple pharmacy chains, higher education institutions, hospitals, training organizations or individual trainers.
Who is the training for?
CPPE local solutions is aimed primarily at pharmacists requiring accreditation to deliver enhanced services in the community, however the content of the events will be of interest to the wider healthcare team, so organisations can use it as they wish and invite whoever they choose to the events, although those not RPSGB registered would not be eligible to complete any e-assessments linked to the event.
Can we run sessions with both pharmacists and technicians?
Yes, CPPE actively encourages this approach as all member of the team need to be involved to effectively deliver advanced services in the pharmacy. The nature of your target audience will be determined by your own local circumstances.
Can we invite other healthcare professionals to a CPPE local solutions event?
Yes, if the topic is appropriate, learning in a multidisciplinary setting can be beneficial. It may also be helpful to have 'local expertise' to help you prepare for the session and field difficult clinical questions. You can determine this locally.
Who delivers local solutions workshops?
CPPE local solutions will usually be facilitated by someone from within the organisation hosting the learning event; however CPPE local tutors may be commissioned to facilitate the workshop if required. Contact your local CPPE tutor by clicking here.
What will CPPE local solutions cost?
All CPPE local solutions resources are available free of charge as downloadable PDFs and powerpoint presentations via the CPPE website. Any venue, catering costs etc will be the responsibility of the commissioning body.
Will CPPE provide support to those organisations that do not have suitable facilitators?
Yes, local CPPE tutors can be commissioned to facilitate the learning events if required, however all CPPE local solutions events also require the presence of at least one local expert to deliver a short PowerPint presentation.
How much will it cost to commission an event?
Tutor to facilitate event (up to 3hr): £375
Repeat events will be £275.
All-day events at £475.
These include briefing expert local speakers.
Event administration (booking via CPPE): £300
Includes online booking, local promotion by email, creation of registers
Printed resources including postage: POA
Includes printing and postage of pre course workbooks to delegates and supply of all other printed materials required for the event
Finding and booking of venue: £100
Facilitation
How much preparation by the facilitator will be involved for each workshop?
This depends on whether they are also responsible for the booking arrangements and finding the local expert speaker. Using CPPE local solutions removes the need for lengthy preparation for facilitation as the complete learning event is provided, with detailed facilitator’s guidance.
What is the ideal number of participants?
This will depend on local circumstances but ideally a maximum of 15-20 participants. It works better if the participants are split into small groups of between 4-6 individuals. Consider two or more facilitators if the numbers are large or else run several sessions.
Is it necessary to have access to AV equipment to run a local solutions workshop?
Yes, most CPPE local solutions will contain an element of presentation so access to a computer and projector is required.
Will the provider have to distribute the information to participants?
All resources will be downloadable by the commissioning organisation; they will then print and distribute resources to the participants. The participants should have no need to access the event materials themselves, although pre-event activities will often include a CPPE open learning pack and/or e-assessment, so they will need access to the CPPE website and log in.
If participants are not eligible to access CPPE materials, they will need to be provided with downloaded materials by their organisation (eg, members of the wider pharmacy team/dispensers). They will not be able to access e-assessments.
Accreditation
Are CPPE local solutions linked to any accreditation?
Yes. CPPE local solutions learning objectives have been mapped to the Harmonisation of Accreditation Group (HAG) competencies where they exist for the particular topic. This means that training can be delivered across PCT boundaries. How participants are certificated etc. will be a local decision. A small number of topics are not directly linked to accreditation but cover key subjects that are required for delivery of services, eg, Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
Who is responsible for checking that the prerequisites are done?
The facilitator can find out if participants have completed e-assessments prior to an event via CPPE viewer on the website but it would be the responsibility of the commissioning body to see proof of certification where required.
Assessment
Do participants have to pass an assessment?
Most CPPE local solutions are linked directly to accreditation so participants would need to pass any assessed role play on the day plus complete any required CPPE e-assessments which form part of the pre- or post-event activity.
Can people who aren’t registered with CPPE undertake an assessment?
All participants can complete the assessed role plays at the event; however any e-assessments linked to the event are only accessible to those with an RPSGB registration or preregistration number.
Will there be dates of validity for assessments?
Once someone has been certificated, it will be the responsibility of local commissioners to decide how long a particular accreditation is valid for, in line with HAG guidance where appropriate.
How do I access the e-assessments?
The e-assessments required for any of the CPPE local solutions can be found within the e-assessment portfolio pages.
Evaluation
Local commissioners will be free to use their own local procedures to evaluate the events.
How often will new topics be available?
Information about new topics will be updated regularly on this website.
