Influenza programmes from CPPE

CPPE has developed two progammes on influenza:

• Module 1* - Understanding influenza 
• Module 2 - Planning your response

With the news of increasing confirmed cases of 'swine flu' world wide, these programmes will help you prepare for a possible flu pandemic. 

About the modules
Module 1 focuses on avian influenza, but provides a background to influenza in general and the challenges of a pandemic. Module 2 on the other hand looks at the UK and World Health Organisation (WHO) plans for managing an influenza pandemic. Both modules are relevant to understanding the progression and management of the current strain of swine influenza.

Module 1- Understanding influenza
This module provides basic information about avian and human flu and how to manage and treat it. It invites you to consider your role before any possible pandemic. 

This module reviews how countries around the world are planning for a pandemic and looks in more detail at the way the UK is preparing for a major outbreak of avian flu. It invites you to consider your role during a pandemic.

How to access the learning
Both programmes are available as downloadable PDF documents from our website to access them please follow the steps below:

1. From the CPPE home page, first Login and complete the login process. If you are a new user you will need to click on the Register link, gain your password and follow the instructions to sign up
2. Click on a pharmacy sector tab such as Community pharmacy, then click on the Learning programmes tab. Select the Open learning tab.
3. You will see a list of all our current open learning programmes.
4. Scroll down to the two Influenza titles. To download the PDF click on the download arrow  next to the title you want and follow the onscreen instructions.

*Please note Module 1-Understanding influenza was posted out in January 2009 to all pharmcists and pharmacy technicians on the practising register at the time. We do have some hard copies left please ring our customer service team on 0161 778 4000 if you can not find the one we posted.
